Section 199A dividends are dividends from domestic real estate investment trusts.
The taxpayer is generally allowed a deduction of up to 20 percent of taxpayer's qualified real estate investment trust dividends. Qualified real estate investment trust dividends from a fund are reported in Box 5 of your Form 1099‑DIV.
The taxpayer generally gets a federal income tax deduction equal to 20 percent of the amount in Box 5. This deduction does not reduce adjusted gross income but does reduce taxable income.
